Maya

Maya is an oversized long sweater to keep you cozy during the cold season.

I have made an interesting experiment with the wonderful Silky Wool yarn. I’ve knitted the sweater at a looser gauge than normal, turned it inside out and tucked it in a laundry bag and then machine-washed it using the cool program. This results in a slightly felted, soft fabric that is stabilized at that looser gauge. It seems that Silky Wool only felts slightly, and that it doesn’t shrink or get stiff. But just to be on the safe side, I recommend that you knit and wash a test swatch to check that your washing machine delivers a result that you are satisfied with.

The front and back are worked in a cable pattern where the cabling creates little crosses riding on vertical stockinette ribs. This creates just enough interest to make it feel like the work is growing quickly. These vertical ribs are echoed in the k2, p2 ribbing used for the sleeves and edgings, making the sleeves perfect knitting for bingewatching your favorite series. The crew neck is versatile but could easily be raised into a mock turtleneck collar if you so choose but I (lover of high neck sweaters) have instead, knitted a separate detached collar in the main pattern.
